Privacy Policy
What this site collects, who else sees it, and how to reach me about it. Last updated October 3, 2026.
The short version
This is my personal portfolio. There are no ads, no newsletter, no comment forms and no visitor accounts. I don’t sell or share personal information, and the site doesn’t use cookies to track you.
Who runs this site
Darren Cherrey-Elliott, a videographer, editor and photographer in Ontario, Canada. This policy covers site.darrence.ca (darrence.ca points to it). Questions about it go to darren@darrence.ca.
What’s collected when you visit
- Visit statistics. Jetpack Stats, run by Automattic (the company behind WordPress.com), counts page views. It records the page you viewed, the page that sent you here, your browser and device type, your country and your IP address. I only see totals and trends, never who you are.
- Server and security logs. Like almost every website, the server logs each request: your IP address, the time, the page requested and your browser. Jetpack’s firewall and login protection use the same details to block attacks. These logs are used for security and fixing problems, nothing else.
- Images. Photos are delivered through Jetpack’s image service (i0.wp.com, also Automattic) so they load faster. Your browser fetches them from Automattic’s servers, which see your IP address in the process.
Videos and outside links
Videos on this site are hosted on YouTube. Until you press play, only a preview image loads, from YouTube’s image server. When you press play, the video loads in YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com), and from then on Google’s privacy policy applies. The preview image for the Music Without Borders documentary is stored on this site instead.
Links to Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn and capstone.darrence.ca are ordinary links: nothing is shared with those sites unless you click one.
Cookies
This site doesn’t set tracking or advertising cookies, and it sets no cookies of its own. YouTube can set its own cookies if you play a video.
If you email me
If you write to me, I keep your email address and message so I can reply and keep track of our conversation. I won’t add you to a mailing list or pass your details on, and I’ll delete them whenever you ask.
Where it’s stored
The site runs on a server I operate in Ontario, Canada. Statistics and images are handled by Automattic (privacy policy) and videos by Google, both of which may process data in the United States and elsewhere.
Your choices and rights
Under Canadian privacy law you can ask what personal information I hold about you, and ask me to correct or delete it. Email darren@darrence.ca and I’ll reply within 30 days. If you’re not satisfied with my answer, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
A content blocker or your browser’s privacy settings can stop the statistics script and the video previews from loading. The site still works without them.
Children
This site isn’t aimed at children, and I don’t knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.
Changes
If this policy changes, I’ll update this page and the date at the top.
